This comprehensive course explores the essential concepts of chemical bonding, beginning with an introduction to ionic and covalent bonds, including their formation, properties, and differences. Students will learn about coordinate covalent bonds, lattice energy, and Fajan’s rule, which explains ionic bond polarization. The course emphasizes the importance of Lewis structures and provides tricks and methods to easily draw them for any compound.

Advanced topics include valence bond theory (VBT), sigma and pi bonds, hybridization of atomic orbitals (sp, sp2, sp3), and VSEPR theory for predicting molecular shapes. Students will gain insight into molecular orbital theory, energy level diagrams, and bond order calculations for different molecules such as O2 and O2⁺.

Practical skills are strengthened with lessons on calculating dipole moments, bond angles, and bond lengths. The course also includes Drago’s rule to understand bond energies and reactivity.
