We are recruiting a journalist with planning experience to join our team in Cairo.
Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Newsgathering & Planning Editor, your role is to help plan news coverage and specific story projects in the newsroom. You will assist in the commissioning of stories from Arabic Correspondents and stringers. You will be required to plan next day events and upcoming news stories. Due to the nature of the work, you will be required to work flexibly (including weekends). You may also be deployed at short notice, including hostile environments.
Are you the right candidate?
The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist, with a demonstrable background in planning and television journalism. You will be a fluent modern standard Arabic speaker and writer, with a good command of English. You must have an excellent knowledge of Arabic and international news and current affairs, together with a good understanding of BBC Arabic output and audiences. A broad understanding of production techniques across various platforms is important. It is essential that you have experience of planning next day and longer term news coverage with teams overseas. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of planning overseas deployments, both editorially and logistically.

Location: Cairo, Egypt
Contract: fixed term for 12 months (local terms and conditions apply)
