Job Description

The ELV Presales Engineer supports the sales team by designing ELV solutions, preparing technical proposals and BoQs, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and leading technical discussions, demos, and PoCs with customers, consultants, and contractors.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

Analyze RFP/RFQ documents, drawings, and specifications; clarify scope, assumptions, and exclusions.

Develop complete ELV solution designs for systems such as CCTV, Access Control, Structured Cabling, SMATV/IPTV, IP Telephony, PA/VA, Intercom, Gate Barriers, GRMS/BMS interfaces, Wi-Fi coverage support (coordination), and Video Analytics.

Produce BoQ/BoM, compliance matrices, system architecture diagrams, single-line diagrams, rack layouts, and network topology (as required).

Select products and prepare technical submittals: datasheets, method statements (as needed), and material approvals aligned to consultant requirements.

Prepare and validate commercial inputs with sales: sizing, quantities, alternates, value engineering options, and cost drivers.

Conduct technical presentations, workshops, and solution justification meetings with end users/consultants.

Coordinate with vendors/manufacturers for design validation, quotations, lead times, and technical approvals.

Support proof-of-concepts and demos (lab or site), define success criteria, and document results.

Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, ONVIF, NFPA/EN54 where applicable, and local codes/consultant standards).

Support handover to projects team: finalize design package, “as-sold” documentation, and scope clarifications.

Maintain a library of templates (compliance matrix, BoQ formats, drawings legends) and continuously improve proposal quality and speed.

High-quality technical proposals submitted on time with minimal revisions.

Accurate BoQs and compliant designs that reduce post-award variation and rework.

Strong win-rate contribution through clear technical differentiation and value engineering.

 

 

 

 

 

Technical Skills (Preferred)

 

 

CCTV design (camera selection, lensing basics, VMS concepts, storage calculations).

Access control design (controllers, readers, locks, door schedules, integration basics).

Structured cabling fundamentals (Cat6/6A, fiber, pathways, racks, labeling, test/OTDR basics).

Ability to use tools such as AutoCAD/Visio, Excel (BoQ), and basic design calculators.

Familiarity with major ELV brands is a plus (e.g., Hikvision/Dahua/Milestone/Genetec, HID, Bosch, Honeywell, Axis, etc.).

 

 

 

 

 

KPIs

 

 

Bid turnaround time and on-time submission rate.

Technical compliance rate and consultant acceptance rate.

Contribution to win-rate and pipeline conversion.

Reduction of post-award design changes/claims due to presales errors.

 

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

 

 

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Communications, or related engineering.

3–7 years presales/design experience in ELV systems (contractor, SI, or distributor).

Proven experience with tendering: compliance matrix, submittals, and consultant coordination.

Good knowledge of IP networking fundamentals relevant to ELV (VLANs, PoE budgets, bandwidth, storage sizing for CCTV).

 

 

Soft Skills

 

 

Strong communication and presentation skills with consultants and enterprise customers.

High attention to detail; able to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.

Commercial awareness and ability to propose alternates/value engineering without breaking compliance.
