To maintain a competitive advantage as we grow, we are currently looking for a new "Data Governance Expert"

Job purpose:

This role holder will manage the establishment, implementation and operation of our Data Governance program from the ground up initially without reliance on external vendors. Given that PDPL (Saudi Arabia) aligns closely with GDPR principles and NDMO aligns with DAMA (Data Management Association) standards, our immediate focus will be on frameworks that adapt GDPR and DAMA best practices to our local markets.

The role holder as well will have leverage open-source tooling, where feasible, to ensure scalability and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

Design operating Data Governance Framework

Develop and implement an enterprise-wide Data Governance framework, including operating models, policies, standards, procedures, and controls.

Align Data Governance framework with local and international regulations such as PDPL and NDMO in KSA, GDPR standards, and relevant UAE/Egyptian requirements.

Incorporate DAMA Data Management best practices to establish robust governance mechanisms and data quality controls.

Regulatory Compliance

Overlook monitoring the evolving regulatory landscape (PDPL/GDPR, NDMO/DAMA, and local data protection laws) and updating policies to ensure ongoing compliance.

Support leveraging GDPR and DAMA frameworks to maintain compliance, given their close alignment with PDPL and NDMO.

Maintain a “control register” to track adherence to regulations, internal policies, and governance controls.

Others

Drive the creation of core Data Governance building blocks such as operating models, policies, processes, standards, and procedures without relying on external vendors.

Identify, research, and recommend open-source Data Governance tools or platforms to support scalability and long-term sustainability.

Continuously assess program performance against these KPIs and identify opportunities for optimization.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams of data stewards, business stakeholders, and IT professionals to implement Data Governance initiatives.

Provide expert advice to leadership, communicating complex data governance topics in clear, actionable terms.

Provide mentorship and oversight to the data governance team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering a culture of excellence.

Qualifications:

• 5 -11 Years experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Information Governance or any relevant functionality within the financial sector (Banking, FinTech, PSP, etc.).
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in law, Information Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Highly preferred certifications in Data Governance, Data Management or Data Privacy
• Demonstrated expertise in standing up Data Governance frameworks, policies, and procedures from the ground up.
• Strong understanding of key data privacy and protection regulations, including PDPL/GDPR, NDMO/DAMA and relevant UAE/Egyptian laws (High)

Familiarity with data governance technologies or open-source tools/platforms.
