Job Purpose
The school counselor is responsible for promoting the general well-being of students, supporting them in difficult situations, and developing crisis intervention strategies to improve student success. S/He also acts as a mentor for teachers and other school staff, and works with outside agencies to provide support to families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to students in the form of individual counseling, group counseling, conflict mediation, crisis intervention, academic advising, and/or classroom guidance lessons
- Maintain student records, such as referral date, documentation of student support services, and interventions
- Guide the development and implementation of initial and ongoing referral, coordination, and follow-up of a variety of additional services for students (e.g., mental health services, after school programming, mentoring, etc.)
- Manage behavior intervention systems and analyzes student behavioral progress including check in check out forms with individual students
- In collaboration with the Student Management Department and concerned administration team, manage student attendance data and identify students and families with low presence
- Design an effective school-wide process to increase student attendance which includes targeted interventions and filling for truancy (if needed)
- Identify, implement, and oversee community programs that will serve our students’ and families’ socio-emotional needs
- Schedule school visits with families on an as-needed basis to address attendance and/or other socio-emotional concerns
- Offer regular workshops for families and staff regarding relevant socio-emotional and/or community-based issues
- Perform such other related tasks as assigned by the school management
Ideal Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work degree is a plus
- English & Arabic Proficient
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in the field
- Experience in counseling and advising
