Students first learn MSP430 assembly language, including addressing modes, MOV instructions, arithmetic and logic operations, branching, loops, stack usage, and subroutines. The course then covers interrupts, vector tables, nested IRQs, and developer responsibilities when designing interrupt-driven systems.
Practical modules focus on digital I/O programming, timers (overflow, compare, PWM, capture), and low-power concepts. Learners transition from assembly to C programming using Code Composer Studio, implementing control structures, bitwise operations, and peripheral configuration in C.
Advanced sections explore serial communication protocols including UART, SPI, and I2C, along with real hardware interfacing such as real-time clock modules. The course also covers Analog-to-Digital Conversion (ADC), polling vs interrupt-driven conversion, and low-power mode integration.
By the end of this course, students will confidently design, program, debug, and interface embedded systems for real-world applications in IoT, robotics, and industrial electronics.
