This Systems Development & Data Representation (SDD) course provides a foundational understanding of how software systems are analyzed, designed, and structured before development begins. It is designed for beginners in computer science and software engineering who want to understand the early stages of system design.
The course begins with understanding how to define and analyze a problem in systems development, which is the first step in building any software solution. It then introduces the top-down approach to software design, explaining how complex systems are broken into smaller, manageable components.
Learners will explore key modeling tools such as context diagrams and data flow diagrams (DFDs), which are used to visualize how data moves through a system. It also covers structure diagrams and data dictionaries, which help define system components and data elements clearly.
In addition, the course explains fundamental computing concepts such as data types and number systems. Learners will study binary, decimal, and hexadecimal representations, along with how conversions between these systems are performed. These concepts are essential for understanding how computers store and process data.
By the end of this course, learners will have a strong foundation in systems development concepts, data modeling techniques, and number systems used in computing, preparing them for more advanced studies in software engineering.
