Reports to: Senior Director, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics
Purpose:
The Business Intelligence Architect is responsible for architecting data solutions that benefit the University by promoting clarity and efficiency in using data to drive decision-making and strategic planning. This role involves creating high-level data solution designs for Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehousing (DW) projects, ensuring alignment with the enterprise data strategy, and translating business needs into long-term information architecture solutions. The architect also performs deep data mining and analysis to uncover hidden patterns and insights.
Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Modeling:
- Translate strategic business needs into robust, long-term information architectures
- Be accountable for creating high-level solution designs for all BI and Data Warehousing (DW) projects and meticulously developing and refining the conceptual, logical, and physical data models for the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)
Data Governance and Standardization:
- Ensure the integrity and clarity of the University's data assets, including collaboration with data governance teams to establish and maintain consistent data dictionaries with agreed-upon definitions
- Perform data profiling to ensure data quality and identify anomalies
Data Integration, Visualization, and Quality Management:
- Design and review the pipelines that move and process data, including leveraging Informatica for extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) and data integration as well as Microsoft Fabric for data storage and data modelling
- Design and implement efficient integration processes and controls to ensure the quality, reliability, and accuracy of data flowing into the EDW
- Architect enterprise BI solutions using Microsoft Power BI and Fabric by creating semantic models, developing interactive reports, and establishing best practices for self-service analytics across the University
Advanced Analytics and Innovation Strategy:
- Evaluate, design, and provide architectural oversight for advanced analytical systems, which involves implementation of AI (Artificial Intelligence) Agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio for conversational AI capabilities, Power Automate workflows, Machine Learning (ML), and data science solutions, as well as providing technical guidance for the selection and implementation of all BI tools and technologies
- General Administrative Support: Perform other related duties as requested
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience, with four years in a related field
- Required experience includes conceptual, logical, third normal form, and physical data modeling, agentic AI development, data analysis, and familiarity with databases, such as Oracle or SQL Server preferred
- Proven hands-on experience with the following technology stack: Microsoft Fabric, e.g. Lakehouse and Warehouse, Power BI, including DAX and semantic modeling, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, e.g. Power Automate, and Informatica for data integration and ETL
- Experience in the higher education industry is preferred
Skills:
- Bilingual Communication and Writing: Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional Arabic writing and editing skills with complete command of grammar
- Knowledge of general communications principles and editorial style guidelines
- Marketing and Research Acumen: Excellent research skills and knowledge of data analytics to effectively communicate on different social platforms and measure tactics
- Has a creative eye and understanding of storyboards or concepts
- Project Management and Organization: Strong project management, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
- Core Attributes: Self-motivated, dynamic, and organized
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse audiences and age groups
