Job Overview

One of our clients is seeking an experienced commissioning professional with a strong background in building envelope commissioning (BECx) and energy code compliance. In this fully remote position, you will work closely with architects, engineers, and owners to ensure building systems and enclosures meet or exceed performance standards under the 2021 and 2024 IECC requirements. This is a client-facing, detail-oriented role requiring both technical expertise and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design reviews of architectural plans and specifications in alignment with IECC 2021 and 2024 requirements.
• Provide technical recommendations for building envelope systems, assemblies, and details to improve compliance and performance.
• Conduct commissioning design reviews with an emphasis on building envelope commissioning (BECx).
• Review MEP commissioning documentation, including drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation.
• Prepare clear and detailed reports documenting findings, corrective actions, and recommendations.
• Contribute to proposal development by drafting technical narratives, defining scope, and shaping project approach.
• Meet directly with architects, engineers, and owners to present reviews and recommendations.
• Utilize proprietary commissioning software for reviews, reporting, and documentation.
• Stay current with energy codes, commissioning standards, ASTM standards, and industry best practices.

Must-Haves

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in commissioning, building envelope consulting, or architectural/MEP design review.
• Strong knowledge of IECC 2021/2024 energy codes and related performance standards.
• Proven ability to conduct design reviews and deliver actionable recommendations.
• Excellent English communication skills (written & verbal).
• Strong technical writing abilities for reports and proposals.
• Client-facing confidence and professionalism when engaging with architects and design teams.
• Preference for candidates with significant building envelope commissioning (BECx) experience.

Technical Knowledge

Familiarity with ASTM standards relevant to building envelope commissioning, including:

• ASTM E783 – Field measurement of air leakage
• ASTM E1186 – Air leakage site detection methods
• ASTM E779 – Fan pressurization for building air leakage
• ASTM E1105 / E547 – Water penetration testing
• ASTM E330 – Structural performance of exterior openings
• ASTM E1424 – Curtain wall air leakage
• ASTM C1193 / C1521 – Sealant usage and adhesion evaluation
