ng Design Estimation Engineer – Key Job Description Points (Consultancy Only)

1. Scope Review & Understanding

• Review RFPs, design briefs, architectural drawings, and project documentation to determine the lighting consultancy scope.
• Identify required deliverables per stage (Concept, Schematic, DD, CD, IFC, Site Support).
• Highlight scope gaps, grey areas, and missing information.
  

2. Fee Estimation & Proposal Support

• Prepare fee estimates for lighting design consultancy services across all project types.
• Analyse project size, complexity, timelines, and required manpower to generate accurate design hours.
• Develop pricing models based on man-hours, blended rates, regional rates, and resource allocation.
• Support BD and Directors with commercial proposals, fee breakdowns, and stage percentages.
  

3. Resource Planning & Manpower Allocation

• Estimate man-days per role (designers, senior designers, PMs).
• Prepare resource schedules aligned with project timelines and BD pipeline planning.
• Support PMs with preliminary workload forecasts.
  

4. Scope Comparison, Exclusions & Risk Identification (New Section)

• Compare lighting design scope vs. MEP engineering scope to identify overlaps, conflicts, and missing responsibilities.
• List all assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, and dependencies, ensuring they are clearly reflected in proposals.
• Identify project risks, including:
• Unrealistic timelines
• Missing design information
• Excessive coordination requirements
• Scope creep potential
• Unclear site involvement
• Recommend mitigation strategies and communicate risk-impact to BD and leadership team.
  

5. Benchmarking & Cost Intelligence

• Maintain internal benchmarking database for similar project types and actual man-hours used.
• Track historical fees to continuously refine accuracy and market competitiveness.
• Analyse market trends and competitor pricing for different regions.
  

6. Technical Coordination

• Liaise with design leads to validate scope complexity and technical requirements.
• Coordinate with BD, finance, and operations to ensure alignment on rates and proposal strategy.
• Provide input on VO/variation claims related to additional scope.
  

7. Tools & Software

• Strong proficiency in Excel estimation sheets and costing templates.
• Knowledge of Odoo or similar ERP/CRM platforms.
• Ability to read AutoCAD/Revit for basic scope quantification.
  

8. Competencies

• Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and organisational skills.
• Deep understanding of lighting design workflow and deliverables.
