This course provides an in-depth introduction to infection prevention and control (IPC) with a focus on limiting the transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). It is designed for healthcare workers, infection control professionals, and public health practitioners who aim to reduce the impact of resistant pathogens on patient safety and public health.
The course begins by defining antimicrobial resistance and its global impact on healthcare systems. Learners will explore how resistant bacteria, viruses, and fungi spread within hospitals and communities, emphasizing the importance of strict IPC measures. Key strategies covered include hand hygiene, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), environmental cleaning, and sterilization techniques.
Participants will also learn about monitoring and surveillance methods to detect and control outbreaks of resistant pathogens. The course highlights the role of antimicrobial stewardship programs, which aim to optimize the use of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents to prevent resistance development.
By the end of the first day, learners will understand how IPC practices reduce the transmission of AMR, protect patients and staff, and support global efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance. The course is practical, evidence-based, and aligned wi
