Role Summary
The Operations Director is a pivotal leadership role responsible for translating Konzept's strategic vision into flawless, profitable, and safe execution across all Food and Agri-sector exhibitions. This role owns the end-to-end operational lifecycle, from pre-show planning and budgeting through on-site execution, vendor management, and post-show evaluation, ensuring exceptional client and exhibitor experience while driving operational efficiency and cost control.
Key Responsibilities
A. Strategic Planning & Financial Oversight
- Budget Management: Develop, manage, and strictly control the overall operational budget for all assigned exhibitions, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
- Operational Strategy: Design and implement robust operational policies, procedures, and best practices that ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency across all exhibition projects.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks (e.g., venue restrictions, Supply Chain delays, safety hazards, governmental compliance, and unexpected site issues).
B. Exhibition Execution & Delivery
- Logistics & Site Management: Oversee all logistical elements, including space planning, floorplan design, move-in/move-out schedules, stand construction, furniture, utilities, and IT setup.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Select, negotiate contracts with, and manage all third-party suppliers (e.g., customs brokers, freight forwarders, contractors, security, and cleaning services). Ensure all service level agreements (SLAs) are met efficiently.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all exhibition activities comply strictly with Egyptian Labour Law, local venue regulations, fire codes, electrical safety standards, and relevant Food Safety Authority guidelines where applicable to the Agri-sector.
- Post-Event: Direct the efficient dismantling and exit process. Conduct comprehensive post-event reviews, reporting on key operational metrics, costs, and lessons learned.
C. Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and motivate the Operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, problem-solving, and high performance, especially in high-pressure event environments.
- Cross-Functional Liaison: Act as the primary link between the CRM,logistics and Content teams to ensure operational delivery aligns with commercial targets and client expectations.
- Stakeholder Relations: Maintain high-level relationships with key external stakeholders, including venue management, regulatory authorities (e.g., Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture), and key industry partners.
D. Food & Agri Sector Specialization
- Specialized Logistics: Manage the specific operational needs of the Food and Agri-sector, including refrigerated storage, handling of perishable goods, demonstration kitchen setups, and compliance for machinery/heavy equipment exhibition.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Drive the implementation of sustainable event practices, focusing on waste reduction, material sourcing, and energy efficiency, particularly relevant to the modern Agri-sector.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
A. Experience
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in large-scale operations and logistics management, with at least 3 years in a director or Senior Management role.
- Mandatory Experience: Proven track record in managing large-scale exhibitions, trade shows, or complex live events, ideally within the Food, Agriculture, or related industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in budget ownership (EGP multi-million) and rigorous vendor/contractor negotiation in the Egyptian/MENA market.
B. Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2) or Event Management is highly desirable.
C. Skills & Competencies
- Leadership: Exceptional leadership, delegation, and personnel management skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and external service providers.
- Problem-Solving: Decisive and resourceful under extreme pressure, with a proven ability to anticipate problems and implement contingency plans quickly.
- Communication: Fluent in both Arabic and English (written and spoken) is essential for effective communication with local teams, international exhibitors, and government bodies.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of technical production, venue infrastructure (power, rigging, ventilation), and construction/build-out processes.
