Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MS SQL Server DBA to manage and maintain our SQL Server databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and integrity of our databases. You will work closely with development teams to ensure proper database architecture and handle complex database challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

- Database Management:

• Install, configure, and manage SQL Server databases.
• Monitor database performance and manage performance tuning activities.
• Implement best practices for database availability and recovery, including backup strategies and DR plans.
• Create and maintain SQL scripts, stored procedures, and triggers.

- Performance Tuning and Optimization:

• Analyze database performance issues, query optimization, and index tuning.
• Monitor and optimize system resources, including memory, CPU, and disk usage.
• Troubleshoot database-related issues in a timely manner.

- Backup and Recovery:

• Manage regular database backups, ensuring recovery capabilities in the event of failure.
• Develop and test disaster recovery strategies.
• Perform data restores, as necessary, ensuring minimal data loss.

- Security and Compliance:

• Implement and enforce database security best practices, including user roles, permissions, and encryption.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Regularly perform security audits and apply security patches to safeguard data.

- Database Development and Support:

• Collaborate with development teams on database design, structure, and coding.
• Review and assist in the development of database code and stored procedures.
• Provide database support and troubleshooting to other IT and development staff.

- Database Migration and Upgrades:

• Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades.
• Research and implement new SQL Server features and tools that could benefit the organization.

- High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR):

• Configure and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions like SQL Server Always-On, mirroring, clustering, and log shipping.
• Test and maintain failover mechanisms.

- Documentation and Reporting:

• Create and maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, policies, and procedures.
• Provide regular reports on database status, performance metrics, and system health.

Qualifications:

- Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

- Experience:

• 5+ years of experience working as an MS SQL Server DBA in a production environment.
• Experience with SQL Server versions [SQL Server 2016, 2019, 2022].

- Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of T-SQL (Transact-SQL) for querying and database development.
• Expertise in SQL Server tools like SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio), SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services), SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), and SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services).
• Experience with SQL Server replication, clustering, and Always-On availability groups.
• Proficient with performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
• Hands-on experience with backup and restores processes, database mirroring, and log shipping.
• Familiarity with Azure SQL Database or other cloud-based database platforms is a plus.

- Soft Skills:

• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

- Preferred Certifications:

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
• Microsoft Certified: Data Management and Analytics
